The National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa extends on an area of 36.000 mq. with the Gulf of Naples and the Vesuvius as frame. Placed to the boundary between the municipalities of Naples and Portici, it can be reached thanks to the main road 18, well-known as " the main road of Calabria ". The Museum of Pietrarsa was organized in the old Bourbon factory, returned to the Vesuvian territory after a restoration.. A museum seldom has had the privilege of a released affinity between its architectures and the story in it told; Pietrarsa is the first Italian museum entirely dedicated to the railway and, for the wealth of the exposed materials, is considered the most important Railway Museum in Europa.
